New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is facing intense criticism for skipping out on a slain NYPD officer's vigil to attend a G20 protest in Germany.

NYPD Sergeants Union President Ed Mullins stated, “New York City is right now mourning the loss of a police officer who was dedicated to the City of New York, and we have our mayor who has just gone to Germany to join protesters. Is this the type of city we want to live in?"

Mullins added, "Where we are failing is in political leadership."

Officer Miosotis Familia was shot and killed in an ambush attack early Wednesday morning.

Mayor de Blasio left New York shortly after Officer Familia's shooting in order to participate in protests against the G20 meeting in Germany.

Officers from the Port Authority Walkway Patrol saved a woman from jumping off of the George Washington Bridge on Sunday afternoon, preventing the 38-year old New Jersey woman from climbing over the rails.

The incident unfolded after officers noticed the woman, dressed inappropriately for the weather and asking odd questions about the depth of the water below, along the bridge walkway.

After engaging her for some time, the woman allegedly attempted to make a leap for the rails.

Officers were able to convince the woman not to jump and she was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Cuomo Commutes Sentence of "Getaway Driver" in '81 Robbery that Killed Two Police Officers

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo commuted the sentence of the notorious "getaway driver" in an infamous 1981 Brinks truck heist that left two police officers and an armored guard dead.

Governor Cuomo commuted the sentence of Judith Clark from 75 years to 35 years, making her eligible for parole in 2017. Clark had previously been ineligible for parole and was slated to spend the rest of her life in prison.

Lest you think Clark was merely caught up with a bad crowd or at the wrong place at the wrong time, an FBI agent who investigated Clark knows otherwise.

Kenneth Maxwell, one of the FBI agents who investigated the infamous case, said in The New York Post, "Judith Clark was no shrinking violet who got caught up in something that got too big for her to handle — she was a committed domestic terrorist who played an integral role in the planning and execution of the Brinks heist."

Maxwell added, "There’s evidence she was a committed member of The Family — a shady group of avowed communists, former Black Panthers and Black Liberation Army members and lawbreakers affiliated with the Republic of New Afrika and Weather Underground."

Nyack (NY) Police Officers Edward O'Grady and Waverly Brown, along with guard Peter Paige, were killed during the robbery.

Governor Cuomo cited "exceptional strides in self-development" in his decision to commute Clark's sentence.

FDNY Captain Raps Anti-Police Lyrics, Draws Ire From NYPD, New York Post Reports

A New York firefighter has apparently had a successful career performing as a rap artist on his downtime, the New York Post reported.

While that wouldn't normally be particularly newsworthy in and of itself, the content of some of his music has caused some to raise their eyebrows.

FDNY fire captain Kaseem Ryan, 44, has released numerous songs under the stage-name Ka, and some of those songs include derogatory references to police officers.

The lyrics in one of the songs include the lines, “F- -k them cops and swats with night vision. I see your traps and your plots to dead us, y’all rolling with Kojaks, n- - -a, I got Berettas.”

Some within the NYPD, understandably, aren't amused.

Ed Mullins, president of the Sergeants Benevolent Foundation, said of Ryan's music, “The biases he portrays through his music are indicative of what he believes or feels." Mullins added that Ryan should be trying to bring people together instead of drawing divisions.

Following the example of other states enacting similar legislation, a Staten Island legislator is proposing to make the physical assault of a police officer a hate crime.

The bill comes in the wake of extreme violence against police officers throughout the nation, including the assassination of 8 police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge.

Assemblyman Ronald Castorina plans to introduce the "Blue Lives Matter" bill tomorrow.

If passed, the class of police officer will be added to the classes of race, gender, sexual orientation, and others, in the state's hate crime legislation.

A New York Environmental Conservation Officer (ECO) had quite the rare encounter on Tuesday with a deer whose head had become stuck in a large globe.

The wayward deer found itself in the predicament after having discovered the globe the night before. That's when ECO Jeff Hull came to the rescue.

After one failed attempt at removing the globe, Officer Hull threw a jacket over the globe and held on while the deer kicked and flailed before freeing itself.

Officer Hull, despite a few bruises, was otherwise uninjured.
