Fort Worth Officer Critically Injured in March Shooting Set to Go Home on Tuesday

Fort Worth police officer Matt Pearce, shot five times by a wanted felon on March 15, is set to leave the hospital and return home on Tuesday.

Tuesday's release from the hospital is the culmination of 7 weeks of rehabilitation.

A statement by police officials remarked that Officer Pearce's fellow officers would be at the hospital lined up to support him as he left the hospital. The statement further read, "The Pearce family welcomes those who want to attend and show their support for Matt and wish him well in his recovery."

Fort Worth Officer Improving Despite Medical Setbacks

Fort Worth Police Officer Matt Pearce, critically injured last week in a fatal shootout with a wanted man, is improving despite a significant medical setback just days ago.

Officer Pearce was shot seven times as he was attempting to take Ed McIver, Sr. into custody. McIver, Sr. was fatally shot in the exchange of gunfire and his son, Ed McIver, Jr. was taken into custody as well.

According to Pearce's wife, the injured officer suffered a medical setback a few days ago when an intestinal incision tore open. Officer Pearce is also now on antibiotics for a potential bout of pneumonia.

Several North Texas Chik-fil-a restaurants are holding fundraisers for Officer Pearce today between 5-9 p.m. 20 percent of sales will be donated to Pearce and his family and the restaurants will also be selling t-shirts.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help the family with expenses. To date, over $81,000 has been raised.

Fort Worth police officer Matt Pearce, 36, remains in critical condition after being shot 7 times by an assailant last week.

Officer Pearce was chasing a wanted suspect when the man turned on him and opened fire. The suspect, Ed McIver, was shot and killed. His son was also taken into custody and is facing charges including attempted capital murder.
