Texas Chief of Police Dies Week After Being Shot at Off-Duty Job

Darrell Allen, the Chief of Police in Marlin, Texas, died on Tuesday from injuries sustained after being shot while working an off-duty security job a week earlier.

Chief Allen and another officer were working off-duty and providing security at a bar in nearby Temple, Texas on November 1 when Chief Allen became involved in an altercation with a patron at the bar.

According to witnesses, Derrick Wayne Gamble, 24, produced a handgun during the struggle and shot Chief Allen in the face. Gamble was arrested at the scene. 

Chief Allen was transported to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition for over a week before succumbing to his injuries.
