United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions made it clear on Tuesday that the Trump administration's policies toward illegal border crossings would be much more firm than his predecessors.

Sessions said in an interview with Fox News, "The border is not open. Please don't come."

He added, "You will be apprehended if you do come and you will be deported promptly. If you’re a criminal, you will be prosecuted, and if you assault our officers, we’re going to come at you like a ton of bricks."

Statistics have shown that the Trump administration's firmer policies on securing the border may already be inhibiting those seeking to enter the United States illegally.

March apprehensions of people attempting to cross the souther U.S. border illegally was sharply down.
