Police in Las Vegas used a decoy mannequin meant to look like a homeless person in order to generate a lead in the unsolved murders of two homeless people earlier this year.

The decoy operation resulted in the arrest of Shane Schindler, 30, whom police allegedly observed walk up to the mannequin and strike it with a 4-pound engineer's hammer.

It was unclear if Schindler is connected to the two previous slayings; however, police say they placed the decoy homeless person in the same spot where one of the victim's was killed earlier this year.

Both murder victims were killed by blunt trauma to the head.
