A Richmond, CA police sergeant suffered facial injuries after being attacked by a man he was trying to help on Wednesday.
Sergeant D. Nelson was on patrol when he saw the suspect laying in the middle of the street. He stopped his vehicle and helped the man, who appeared intoxicated, cross the street and get to the sidewalk.
Without warning, the suspect became angry and began striking the sergeant in the face. The sergeant was able to get control of the man and place him under arrest.
Sergeant Nelson suffered a broken nose and contusions but is expected to recover.
