St. Paul's 2008 "Officer of the Year" Loses Battle With Cancer

A St. Paul, MN police officer who spent the bulk of her career patrolling the city's east side has died from cancer at the age of 50.

Officer Mary Alberg had also been named the department's "Officer of the Year" back in 2008 for saving another officer's life.

St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell said, "Officer Mary Alberg served St. Paul with compassion, dignity and respect." 

He added that she had, "a passion for serving those in our community who didn’t have the opportunities many of us take for granted every day.”

Officer Alberg, known for her work with the community, leaves behind a teenaged son.
