Controversial NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick is reportedly set to end his National Anthem protest next season.

Kaepernick gained widespread notoriety for his unwillingness to stand during the anthem, citing mistreatment of minorities at the hands of police as a reason for the protest statement.

Sources told ESPN that Kaepernick feels that his protest has made positive changes to the broader social conversation and that his continued kneeling might take away from that.

Reports also suggest that Kaepernick is about to opt into the free agent market and legitimate questions remain as to whether or not his protest of the National Anthem might inhibit teams from signing him.
