The decision not to seek the death penalty against accused cop-killer Markeith Loyd has infuriated Orlando Police Chief John Mina.
Loyd was arrested in connection with the murder of both his pregnant girlfriend as well as Orlando Police Lt. Debra Clayton, who had attempted to take him into custody before Loyd allegedly shot and killed her.
Chief Mina said of the decision not to seek the death penalty against Loyd, "I’ve seen the video, so I know the state attorney has seen the video of (Loyd) standing over defenseless and helpless Lt. Debra Clayton and executing her.”
Mina added, "We believe that this should be determined by a jury, if he gets the death penalty.”
Orange-Osceola State Attorney Aramis Ayala is slated to speak on the decision later today.
