A United States congressman was briefly handcuffed after refusing to leave the Chicago office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) had been at the office to participate in a discussion between ICE officials and a variety of groups advocating for immigration rights.

After the meeting, Rep. Gutierrez allegedly refused to leave because he was not satisfied with the answers he received from ICE.

At one point, Federal Protective Services officers briefly placed Gutierrez in flex cuffs but they were removed shortly thereafter when ICE officials decided they did not want to pursue the congressman's removal from the premises.

Rep. Gutierrez took to Twitter to relay his almost-arrest, stating, "I was arrested, cuffed then cuffs were cut off.  Waiting for further word on if/when we will be arrested. #chiresist."
