Arkansas Bill Would Limit Distribution of Videos Showing Officers Being Killed

The Arkansas state legislature is considering a bill to restrict the distribution of videos showing the killing of police officers.

Rep. Jimmy Gazaway introduced the bill, which recently passed the Arkansas House by a 94-0 vote, that would limit the distribution of video showing officers being killed unless public interest in the particular case outweighed the government's desire to keep the video private.

The legislation arose after incidents in which videos showing officers being killed were extensively shared on social media. In some cases, the family of the officers killed saw the videos on their social media feeds, causing unnecessary suffering.
