Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions was confirmed on Wednesday evening to be the nation's top law enforcement officer.

Sessions' confirmation vote fell largely along party-lines with a final tally of 52-47. One Democrat, Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, voted in favor of Sessions.

As Attorney General, Sessions will head the United States Department of Justice, overseeing an agency comprised of over 100,000 employees.
