Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) tried unsuccessfully to have a controversial painting depicting police officers as pigs rehung in the halls of the United States Capitol.

The painting had been the center of controversy last month between lawmakers who felt the artwork was insulting to the law enforcement community and others who felt that it was a matter of free speech.

The painting, selected by Congressman Lacy Clay (D-MO) for a congressional art competition, was ultimately taken down after the Architect of the Capitol deemed it inappropriate for display.

Rep. Pelosi had appealed to the Architect's office on Friday; however, her appeal was denied.
