A Mexican national who escaped from an Illinois prison in 2003 has been arrested in Atlanta by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and is now awaiting extradition back to Illinois.

Jorge Soberanis-Rumaldo, 58, had been sentenced in 2003 to 8 years in prison after being convicted of cocaine possession; however, he escaped from jail only a few months into his sentence.

ICE is expected to pursue extradition proceedings after Soberanis-Rumaldo deals with his prior criminal charges in Illinois.
