An Austin City Councilman has accused Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents of engaging in "retaliation" by arresting dozens of illegal immigrants in the Austin area.

The so-called retaliation was in response to people in Austin "standing up for our values against people like Abbott and Trump."

The comments were made by Concilman Gregorio Casar in response to targeted ICE activity that resulted in the arrests of over 600 people nationwide this past week.

ICE has said that the activity, known as Operation Cross Check, was a routine operation targeting criminal illegal aliens.

Councilman Casar believes that the activity was a result of his community defying both President Trump and Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

Both President Trump and Governor Abbott have made taking on sanctuary cities part of the focus of their immigration and/or homeland security policies.
