Inmates at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna, Delaware took several correction's personnel hostage on Wednesday, igniting a standoff with law enforcement.

The inmates had initially taken 5 correctional workers hostage before releasing one of the hostages.

In a phone call to local media, the inmates stated that their objective for taking the hostages was in defiance of, "Donald Trump. Everything that he did. All the things that he’s doing now. We know that the institution is going to change for the worse.”

They also cited poor educational opportunities for inmates in the correctional facility.

The correctional faculty opened in 1971 and houses approximately 2,500 inmates.
