Chicago Picking Up Where it Left Off: 7 Killed and 53 Shot in First Days of 2017

Barely entering the fourth day of the year, Chicago is already off to an inauspicious start.

After experiencing over 750 murders last year -- a multi-year high -- 7 people have already been murdered in the Second City along with a total of 53 shot (46 wounded).

The killings were included among the many people killed or wounded in a particularly bloody New Year's Eve weekend.

Over the holiday weekend, 55 people were shot and 6 killed, a jump from the 42 people shot and four killed last year.

Everyone is surely hopeful that 2017 will be a safer year in Chicagoland but the first few days of the new year are leaving people skeptical.
