Two Miss. Deputies Injured in Shootout With Robbery Suspect

Two Mississippi police deputies were injured in a shootout with an armed robber Wednesday night. The suspect was killed in the shootout but the deputies are expected to survive. 

The suspect has been identified as Kevin Darnell Washington, 54, and is suspected in a string of armed robberies.

He was said to have previously spent 11 1/2 years of a 30 year sentence for various crimes in Tennessee before being released from prison.

The injured DeSoto County Sheriff's Deputies were identified as Lee Hutchens and Hunter Garrett. Deputy Hutchens suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, collapsed lung, and broken rib but is expected to recover. Deputy Garrett was shot in the foot, treated, and released from the hospital.
