A Louisiana police officer who had stopped to render assistance at what he thought was a traffic accident was shot and killed Friday.
Westwego Police Officer Michael Louviere, 26, was driving home from work when he observed what he thought was a traffic accident. When he attempted to assist he discovered that a woman had been shot multiple times.
As Officer Louviere checked on the injured woman, a suspect walked up to him and shot him, killing him.
The suspect, Sylvester Holt Jr., fled the scene but was located later in the day. Holt eventually shot himself in the chest and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He was said to be in critical condition.
Officer Louviere, a former Marine, had been with the force since 2015 and leaves behind a wife and two children.
