California Deputy Shot and Wounded in Central Valley Shootout, Suspect Dead

A Merced County (CA) Sheriff's Deputy was critically wounded in a shootout with a suspect on Thursday evening. 

The incident occurred after deputies responded to a home in the town of Delhi, CA on a call of a domestic disturbance.

When they arrived, suspect Jose Torres, 38, emerged from the home with a gun and opened fire.

One deputy was struck by the gunfire and ultimately transported to a local hospital for treatment. Deputies on scene returned fire, killing Torres. 

Although the injured deputy was listed in critical condition he is expected to survive.
