The city of Chicago has experienced it's most violent year in decades with nearly 550 homicides to date and over 3,000 people shot.

Now, the city plans to add another 1,000 police officers to it's ranks in an effort to combat crime.

The Chicago Police Department plans to add the officers over the next two years with 500 of them slated to hit the streets as patrol officers.
