Tennessee Police Officer Shot and Killed, Suspect in Custody

A Maryville, TN police officer was shot and killed Thursday afternoon after responding to a domestic disturbance call.  

The Maryville officer, along with a Blount County deputy, had responded to an apparent disturbance between the suspect, identified as 44-year old Brian Stalons, and his father.  

After getting the suspect's father to safety, Stalons allegedly emerged from a garage area and opened fire.  

The officer was mortally wounded after being shot in the neck. He was rushed to a local hospital but died of his injuries. 

Stalons was subsequently taken into custody. 

The officer's identity has not yet been released pending notification of his family; however, he has been described as a veteran of the force.
