A bizarre incident occurred in Alton, IL Tuesday morning, resulting in the arrest of a 77-year old woman on charges of attacking a police K9.

The incident began after a K9 police officer stopped a pedestrian near the corner of Brown and Highland. The 42-year old man who had been stopped by the officer became violent and bit the officer before fleeing the scene.

The officer released his K9 partner, Jax, to chase the suspect; however, as the dog was chasing the suspect a 77-year old woman allegedly emerged from her home and threw an object at the dog.

Reports indicate that the woman was the mother of the 42-year old suspect and attempted to intervene when she was the K9 engaging her son.

Both the male and female suspects were taken into custody.

The officer was treated for his injury and the K9 checked by a veterinarian. Both are expected to be fine.
