An Arkansas police chief and deputy were shot and wounded during a gunfight with a suspect early Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred after police were called to check on the welfare of the suspect, identified as Billy M. Jones.
Sebastian County Deputy Bill Cooper and Hackett Police Chief Darrell Spells responded to the scene.
It was at Jones's home that the shooting apparently occurred. Deputy Cooper was shot and is listed in extremely critical condition.
Chief Spells was grazed by a bullet, treated, and released from the hospital.
After the shooting, Jones allegedly barricaded himself in his home, prompting a response from area SWAT teams. He was subsequently taken into custody after a several hours standoff.
