65 people were shot and killed in the city of Chicago over the month of July, a drop from the 72 shot and killed in June.

The numbers still represent a dramatically higher total than most major cities in the United States experienced during a similar time period.

The killings bring the total number of people murdered in the Second City to 401 so far this year.
