A deranged man tossed a fake bomb into the open window of an NYPD van on Wednesday night, prompting an hours-long standoff that culminated in his being taken into custody and transported to a facility for a medical evaluation.

The suspect, identified as 52-year old Hector Meneses, threw the phony device into the police van at Times Square but officers drove the device to a less populated area before throwing it out of the window.

The NYPD bomb squad eventually determined the device to be fake.

Meneses was later located in the area of Columbus Circle. When officers tried to pull him over he stopped his vehicle and refused to come out.

As officers communicated with Meneses, the suspect told them that he had a bomb strapped to his chest. After several hours, SWAT officers descended upon Meneses and took him into custody.

He was taken to a facility for a medical evaluation.
