Thousands of protesters took to the streets throughout the nation this week to protest recent police shootings. Unfortunately, the situation in St. Paul, MN turned particularly violent last night.

Dozens of protesters blocked I-94 on Sunday night, shutting down the freeway in an act of protest.

When officers attempted to clear the roadway they were met with a violent reaction that included the throwing of rebar, concrete blocks, rocks, glass, and even fireworks.

21 officers were injured in the assault.

St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell said of the incident, "This is the first time in my 28 years we have observed this level of violence toward our public servants. It's really a disgrace."

Multiple arrests were made and the roadway was eventually opened up.
