A Philadelphia woman has donated $22,000 to help outfit each of the Philadelphia Police Department's 23 patrol-ready K9s with protective vests.

Philanthropist Joanne Berwind made the donation after hearing about a fallen police K9 in Virginia. After hearing the story she decided that she had to do something to help the K9's in Philadelphia.

The vests cost around $900 each and Philly's K9 cops should have their new vests ready to go for the upcoming Democratic National Convention, an event sure to bring high numbers of protesters and the potential for violence.
