NOPD Officer Dies From Injuries Sustained in Sunday Accident

A New Orleans police officer gravely injured in a vehicle accident on Sunday has died from her injuries.

Officer Natasha Hunter, 31, died on Tuesday from injuries sustained after her patrol vehicle was struck by a suspected drunk-driver on I-10.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, 33-year old Chau Thai Nguyen, was taken into custody at the scene.

NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said of the loss of Officer Hunter, "This is a tragic loss for her family, friends, fellow officers and our entire community. Officer Hunter was a dedicated public servant who loved her family, her job and serving her city. We will never forget the sacrifice she made and the hearts and prayers of our entire department our with her family today and always."

Officer Hunter is survived by her 5-year old daughter.
