Louisiana Sergeant Dies in Solo-Vehicle Accident While Responding to Assist Fellow Officer

A sergeant with the Winnsboro, LA police department died in a solo-vehicle accident on Saturday morning while responding to assist an officer.

Sergeant Derrick Mingo lost control of his police vehicle while driving westbound on Louisiana 4. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Mingo, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, died as a result of his injuries.

Sergeant Mingo had previously served the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office prior to joining the Winnsboro police department. He was 34-years old.
