A Miami Beach police officer came to the aid of a downed pelican on Monday morning, likely saving the animal's life.

Officer Traci Sierra found the animal in the roadway after it had struck a power line and immediately transported the animal to the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station.

Animal care professionals at the facility said that the pelican was likely in shock and was bleeding but they anticipated it being able to recuperate.

Officer Sierra named the pelican "Dudley," and employees at the Seabird Station said that they believe they had treated Dudley in the past because he was wearing a black bank around his leg, indicating prior treatment.
