NYPD officers fatally shot a 25-year old man in the Bronx Sunday morning after he pointed a gun at the officers.

Officers had responded to a call of shots fired at the Soundview Houses at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Sunday.

When they arrived, they confronted suspect Rashaun Lloyd, who was waiving a gun around and ultimately pointed it at the officers.

Officers opened fire, striking Lloyd. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Although Lloyd had a lengthy criminal record including robbery and drug possession, his mother disputed whether officers needed to shoot her son.

"They’ve been after my son a long time. I know he was going around doing stuff, he had a record, but they didn’t have to do that. They didn’t have to do it like that," Lloyd's mother said.

Police dispute the mother's claim, arguing that they were forced to fire upon Lloyd after he pointed his weapon at them.
