Rookie Texas Police Officer Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver

A rookie Pearland, TX police officer was killed early Sunday morning after being struck head-on by a suspected drunk driver. 

A passerby discovered Officer Endy Ekpanya, 30, pinned inside of his patrol vehicle at Broadway and Liberty Streets in Pearland, Texas at around 3:15 a.m.

Officer Ekpanya had been involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. 

Officer Ekpanya was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment; however, he died at approx. 4 a.m.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was also taken to a local hospital for treatment and is said to be in serious condition.

Officer Ekpanya is the third Pearland police officer to die in the line of duty and the first since 1973. He leaves behind a 2-year old son and fiancée.
