An Orlando police officer, engaged in the fatal shootout with suspected Pulse Nightclub terrorist Omar Mateen, had his life saved by his kevlar helmet.

A dramatic image released by the Orlando Police Department, via Twitter, depicts the officer's helmet, dented and marred by a bullet strike.

The caption to the picture reads, "Pulse shooting: In hail of gunfire in which suspect was killed, OPD officer was hit.  Kevlar helmet saved his life."

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims of the shooting, their families, and the people of Florida.
