KC Detective Shot Earlier in the Day Has Died

A Kansas City, KS police detective, shot earlier in the day by a carjacking suspect, has died. 

Detective Brad Lancaster was shot at around 12:20 p.m. Monday as he was assisting another officer on a suspicious person call.

The suspect in the shooting, identified as Curtis Ayers, fled in Detective Lancaster's vehicle following the shooting.

Ayers was later taken into custody after being involved in another shootout with police.

Detective Lancaster was a veteran police officer, having served with the department for nearly a decade.
