An elderly Green Bay, WI woman who had raised an American flag in honor of her recently deceased, WWII-veteran husband awoke to find the distinguished symbol missing from the front of her home, taken by thieves.

After Green Bay Police Department Officer Rob Ecke heard the story he decided to do something.

Officer Ecke went to a local store and purchased a new American flag, delivering it to the elderly woman and helping raise it in front of her house.

The family was grateful for Officer Ecke's kind gesture and the woman's granddaughter, Susan Llamera, took to social media to offer these remarks.

"This is a big thank you from her oldest granddaughter and family in Florida it means so much to us that are so far away and feel helpless,” wrote Llamera. “Your dedication and generosity to my grandmother is greatly appreciated. ... And for the one that stole the flag, shame on you to do this.”

Great work by the men and women of the Green Bay Police Department.
