A Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputy is recovering today after being shot multiple times early Saturday morning in an ambush-style drive-by shooting.

The incident occurred as the deputy was engaged in an unrelated DUI investigation along Price Road at approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday.

As the deputy was speaking with individuals inside the car, a different vehicle drove by and one of the occupants opened fire on the deputy.

The deputy was struck multiple times in the lower extremities. He was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. He is listed in stable condition.

The incident left Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio enraged.

"When I look at the circumstances, my blood is boiling," Arpaio said

He continued, "Something is wrong out there and has to be corrected. When I say war on cops, I think that’s a good title I give it,  that’s what it is – a war on cops.”

Sheriff Arpaio concluded, "I don’t want to call him a scumbag, a coward, but I would like him to surrender, face the music, be a man.”

The investigation is ongoing.
