When Curtis Ayers is well enough to leave the hospital and get booked into jail for the murder of Kansas City, KS police detective Brad Lancaster, he'll likely be wearing the slain detective's handcuffs.
Ayers, 28, is being charged with capital murder in the killing of Detective Lancaster. Ayers is also suspected of being involved in a carjacking and fleeing police in a stolen vehicle.
Officer Chris Blake, present when the idea to use Detective Lancaster's handcuffs on Ayers was presented to his widow, said the gesture means a lot.
"t was both satisfying and it was hard, tearing at my heart a little bit, you know, knowing that Brad won’t use them anymore and this will probably be the last thing they’re ever used for," Officer Blake said.
