A San Bernalillo County, NM K9 that was stabbed and beaten unconscious by a domestic violence suspect last week made his first public appearance on Monday.

K9 Rex made his appearance at a news conference and appeared to be recovering nicely from his injuries, although he was seen wearing a t-shirt over his body, apparently meant to shield the public from views of his injuries.

The incident occurred last week as Rex was assisting officers in their attempt to apprehend 22-year old Oscar Valadez, himself allegedly involved in a domestic violence incident.

Valadez allegedly stabbed and beat Rex with a baseball bat, knocking the 6-year old Belgian Malinois unconscious.

Valadez was eventually taken into custody and is now facing multiple felony charges, including cruelty to animals.
