Hundreds of mourners paid their respects this morning to fallen Virginia State Police Trooper Chad Dermyer, as he was laid to rest following his death last week.

Trooper Dermyer was shot and killed when a gunman walked up to Dermyer at a Richmond Greyhound station and opened fire. Dermyer and other troopers were at the bus station engaged in a training exercise.

The suspect, James Brown III, 34, had a long criminal history with prior charges including murder, assault of a pregnant woman, and battery with a firearm.

Trooper Derymer had previously served with the Newport News Police Department as well as the Jackson, MI police department and he was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
