A man critically wounded after shooting an undercover Mobile, AL police officer on Friday has been charged with five counts of attempted murder.
The incident occurred early Friday when officers engaged in a drug investigation attempted to place Ryan Burkhardt, 32, into custody.
Burkhardt pulled a handgun on the officers and fired multiple times, striking one officer twice.
Mobile police stated that Burkhardt, who was meeting with the undercover officers, was armed with a bulletproof vest and multiple magazines, apparently prepared to engage in violence.
The injured officer was transported to a local hospital and treated. He is expected to survive.
Officers returned fire, striking Burkhardt. He was transported to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition as of Friday.
