NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton offered some sage advice to people questioning how to avoid being shot by police.

"The best way to not get shot by a New York City police officer is not carry a gun and not raise that gun toward them," Bratton said.

The comment came amid a Monday press conference where an incident involving the April shooting of George Tillman by NYPD officers was discussed.

Officers shot and killed Tillman after he allegedly pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at police.

Not surprisingly, Tillman's family and others have questioned whether or not Tillman was carrying a gun at the time of the shooting and whether or not police should have shot him 11 times.

Bratton was incredulous at the suggestion.

"My cops go out there every day and put their lives at risk and the attorneys the games they play the families that never want to believe that their loved ones were involved in anything. I’m sorry, that individual was carrying a gun, raised that gun and was shot,” Commissioner Bratton said.
