An Arlington, TX police officer is recovering after being shot on Monday while assisting another agency in the arrest of a suspect wanted for murder.

The Arlington police officer, identified as Officer Edward Johnston, was at an apartment complex assisting Saginaw police detectives attempting to serve a warrant on Joel McCommon, 23.

McCommon had been identified as the suspect in the murder of 17-year old Jordan Miles one week earlier.

As officers approached McCommon's apartment, he allegedly opened fire, striking Officer Johnston.

Johnston returned fire, striking McCommon, who was subsequently taken into custody.

Officer Johnston was treated at a local hospital and released. McCommon was treated at a local hospital as well, prior to booking at the local jail.
