A Philadelphia police officer is recovering at a local hospital after being shot in the leg while attempting to apprehend a burglary suspect on Sunday night.
Officer James McCullough, 24, and his partner were flagged down by an individual who told the officers that her vehicle was being broken into.
When the officers confronted the suspects a foot pursuit ensued. As Officer McCullough tackled one of the suspects he was shot in the leg.
The two suspects fled on foot but were apprehended a short time later and taken into custody.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross noted that officer McCullough had to apply a tourniquet to his own leg because of how badly he was bleeding.
Officer McCullough's partner drove him to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He is currently listed in stable condition.
