Man Who Shot Richmond, VA Police Officer Sentenced to 23 Years in Prison

A man who pled guilty to shooting a Richmond, VA police officer on January 2, 2015 has been sentenced to 23 years in prison. 

Tamar Xavier Harris shot Officer William Turner as Turner arrived on scene while responding to a call of an argument between Harris and his siblings.

Officer Turner was seriously wounded and required extensive rehabilitation therapy, including the need to relearn to walk. Officer Turner has since returned to work and is now patrolling the same neighborhood where the shooting took place.

Harris had a history of mental illness and multiple prior suicide attempts, including a 2012 incident where he shot himself in the head.
