Columbus, Ohio Police Officer Shot on Sunday Has Died

The Columbus, OH police officer gravely wounded in a shooting on Sunday has died.  

Officer Steven Smith, 54, of the Columbus Police Department succumbed to his injuries after being hospitalized on Sunday. 

Chief Kim Jacobs said, "We’ve lost a family member. The city lost a true hero, a true guardian and protector.”

Officer Smith is the 54th Columbus police officer to die in the line of duty since 1816 and the 31st officer killed in the line of duty this year.
