A video of a police officer in Southern California teaching a young homeless girl how to hopscotch has gone viral on social media, highlighting a gentler side of law enforcement.
Officers in Huntington Beach located the girl and her mother homeless and living out of a car. That's when Officer Zach Pricer decided to put the frightened girl at ease by teaching her the game of hopscotch.
"For an 11-year-old girl, to see a police officer towering over her is a scary thing. I was trying to break the ice and get her to feel more comfortable with me," Pricer said.
Afterward, officers contacted social services to try and find housing for the pair.
