Jackson (MS) Police Officer Injured in Exchange of Gunfire with Robbery Suspect

A Jackson (MS) police officer is recovering after being shot by a suspected robber early on Wednesday morning.

Officer Abe Gines responded to a call of a robbery at the Edgewood Terrace Apartments at approximately 6:30 a.m. when he was confronted by the suspect, who emerged from the rear of an apartment.

Officer Gines and the suspect exchanged gunfire before the suspect fled out a rear window. Officer Gines was grazed by the bullet but chased after the suspect before losing him in a nearby creek.

Police believe that the suspect had kicked the door in of the apartment before entering to commit the robbery.

A manhunt is currently underway in the area. Officer Gines was treated at a local hospital and released.
