Man Wanted in Fatal Stabbing Shot, Wounded by Ohio Police

A man wanted out of Maryland related to the fatal stabbing of an individual was shot and wounded by an Ohio police officer before being taken into custody on Tuesday.

Glendale police officer Josh Hilling, 31, saw the suspect, identified as Javier Pablo Aleman, walking along Interstate 75 and stopped to see if he needed assistance, not knowing that Aleman was a wanted fugitive.

Aleman allegedly first ignored the officer but the exchange soon turned heated when Officer Hilling requested to check Aleman's bag before offering him a ride, which is standard protocol.

An apparent struggle ensued and the officer shot and wounded Aleman. He is recovering at a local hospital before a likely extradition hearing and return to Maryland.
