Fort Worth Police Officer Matt Pearce, critically injured last week in a fatal shootout with a wanted man, is improving despite a significant medical setback just days ago.

Officer Pearce was shot seven times as he was attempting to take Ed McIver, Sr. into custody. McIver, Sr. was fatally shot in the exchange of gunfire and his son, Ed McIver, Jr. was taken into custody as well.

According to Pearce's wife, the injured officer suffered a medical setback a few days ago when an intestinal incision tore open. Officer Pearce is also now on antibiotics for a potential bout of pneumonia.

Several North Texas Chik-fil-a restaurants are holding fundraisers for Officer Pearce today between 5-9 p.m. 20 percent of sales will be donated to Pearce and his family and the restaurants will also be selling t-shirts.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help the family with expenses. To date, over $81,000 has been raised.
